"Hurry" original watercolor painting by Shauna P. Williams
This week's Illustration Friday topic was "Hurry". As I was deciding what to draw this week my mind went to a black and white photograph I have in a book I own called Hats. The picture is of an elegant girl from the 1920's and as I thought of who the girl in the photograph was, a story started to form into my mind of what was going on in this girl's life the day this photograph was taken.
The Story I Created To Go Along With the Painting:
At the last minute Penelope threw on her pearls and rushed out the door as her friends yelled to her, "Hurry Penelope, we are going to be late for the party!"
How I Decided on the Colors for the Painting:
Even though I was looking at a black and white photograph for inspiration, I knew I wanted to paint my painting in color. So, I went on line and did a lot of research of what the popular colors and styles were for women's fashion during the 1920's. I found there were a lot of tan, green, navy, peach, black, and burgundy clothing.
My inspiration behind my watercolor painting, a black and white photograph of a girl from the 1920's. Below is an up-close shot of the flowers I painted on her hat. You can see a fringe of black hair peaking through underneath her hat.
My Daughter's "Hurry" Illustration:
My Seven Year Old Daughter wanted to participate in this weeks Illustration Friday Challenge. It was so cute and as soon as I told her the topic she ran and grabbed her sketch book and started drawing away. Here is her version of "Hurry". The Mom is leaning into her daughter's room and is telling the little girl, "Hurry or you will be late for school!"I love how she drew the mother leaning with her side profile showing, and how she realized that if she was leaning over her necklace would be swaying out in front of her. I also love how the little girl is in the middle of sliding her shirt over her head. Can I just tell you how much I love the fact that my little girls love art like I do!?!
I have just added some new prints of my "Penelope 1920's Fashion Girl Painting" (formally named Hurry) to my Artistically Shauna Etsy Store. I am also going to be adding some greeting cards featuring this painting as well. CLICK HERE to be taken to my shop.
